This part of the city is occupied primarily by office blocks and hotels, business is centred on La Rampa. Directly east on Calle San Miguel between calles Ronda and Mazon is the fine Museo Napoleonico, this mansion is house of a remarkable collection of Napoleonic memorabilia. Vedado's top sight is undoubedly the Cementerio de Cristobal Colon.
Pros!
Contains many of the larger hotels that were built in the 1950s during the height of the Batista regime. Most of the hotels have swimming pools, conference rooms and larger rooms than what you would typically find in the older hotels in Habana Vieja. Most hotels are ten or more stories high and offer good views of the city.
Cons?
You end up taking a taxi to Habana Vieja everyday ($5) to see the sights. Many of these hotels look a bit tired and are in need of renovation. They also tend to be large and impersonal, lacking the charm of Havana Vieja. The one exception is the Hotel Nacional.
